Written by playwright Le Quy Hien, the script is inspired by the life and revolutionary career of Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Hanoi's first official Party Secretary. Set in 1930, when the Communist Party of Vietnam was founded, the story highlights his journey of political enlightenment, sacrifice and dedication.
"Fire from the Earth" vividly portrays the challenges Nguyen Ngoc Vu and his comrades faced as they fought for Vietnam's independence. It reflects their patriotism and unwavering belief in a better future, inspiring people from all walks of life-intellectuals, workers, and peasants-to unite in the fight for national liberation, culminating in the August Revolution of 1945.
According to Meritorious Artist Cao Ngoc Anh, general director of the musical, the production aims to recreate a heroic chapter in Hanoi's history and honor the patriotism and revolutionary spirit of its people. She stressed the importance of inspiring younger generations with the message of resilience and sacrifice for national independence.
The creative team includes renowned talents such as director Dao Duy Anh, composer Minh Dao, and National Artist Doan Bang. The lead roles are played by renowned artists, including Le Viet Anh as Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Meritorious Artist Thanh Tam as his mother, and Bui Trang as his love interest.
The set, which features dynamic modular elements, depicts the streets and architecture of early 20th century Hanoi. Advanced 3D mapping technology will enhance the performance, creating immersive scenes and stimulating the audience's imagination.
"With the enthusiasm and creativity of a national theater, we continue to innovate and create musicals that resonate with modern audiences while preserving cultural heritage," said Meritorious Artist Nguyen Si Tien, director of the Youth Theater.
The musical will premiere at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi on March 15-16, 2025, with additional performances planned throughout the city in honor of revolutionary hero Nguyen Ngoc Vu.
