Japan's MERRO Scholarship is awarded to poor students who have excellent academic achievements, strong will to overcome difficulties and the sense of responsibility to the community and society.

The Vietnamese delegation won the most gold medals (15), which is the best achievement in the four years participating in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad.
