Vietnam top leader congratulates Lao Party Secretary General
Vietnam said it will maintain and reinforce the friendship with Laos.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and State President Nguyen Phu Trong has congratulated newly-elected General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee Thongloun Sisoulith.

Mr. Trong also sent a basket of flowers to Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith who was elected at the 11th National Congress that was concluded on January 15, 2021, replacing retiring party leader Bounnhang Vorachit.
Mr. Trong said he believed that under the leadership of the LPRP and the General Secretary, the Lao people will continue to reap greater successes, building a nation of peace, independence, democracy, unification, and prosperity towards the goal of socialism.
He underlined that the Party, State and people of Vietnam will join hands with the Party, State and people of Laos to maintain and reinforce the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, 75, held multiple senior posts in government since 1987. He became prime minister in 2016 and since then has represented the country at prominent international summits.
He also presented to the congress a new five-year socio-economic plan that aims to achieve 4% annual GDP growth through 2025 and raise the average per capita income from US$2,500 to $2,887 by then, according to the Vientiane Times.
On this occasion, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also congratulated Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith on his election.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan extended her congratulations to Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotu on being re-elected to the LPRP’s Politburo.
Executive Member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong sent a message to congratulate Dr Bounthong Chitmany, executive member of the LPRP Central Committee Secretariat.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent congratulatory message to Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith for being elected to the Politburo.
Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan congratulated Mr. Sounthone Sayachak, head of the Lao Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, on being elected to the Secretariat.
