Breathtaking lotus pond outside Hanoi

A lotus pond at the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, approximately 20km from the center of Hanoi, is one of the most popular places in the city these days, attracting thousands of people daily.

Established in 2019, it is the place for research, development, and protection of genetic resources of this precious flower in Hanoi.

The lotus pond covers an area of 7.5 hectares with more than 60 indigenous lotus species originating from all three regions of the country, namely pink lotus, white lotus, single-petal pink lotus, multi-petal pink lotus, yellow lotus, Dong Thap and West Lake lotus, among others.

The lotus has a simple but elegant beauty and a stunning scent, usually seen in pink or white.

These magnificent lotus flowers are beautiful under the Summer sun and create a romantic backdrop.  The white lotus has pure ivory petals. Its body has an average length of 1.5-2 meters, while its root grows horizontally, crawling under the water about three meters.

Visitors not only come to admire these beautiful flowers but also to take pictures with them.

Each flower features dozens of thin and sharp-shaped petals with a typical gentle scent that can’t be found in other kinds of blossoms.

The lotus symbolizes longevity, purity, and beauty in Buddhism and Hinduism. Gentle lotuses with delicate petals capture the hearts of flower lovers, especially girls.  Lotus is also a great source of food for the locals. Lotus-scented tea is a specialty of Hanoi, reflecting the culture and exquisiteness of the Hanoi people.
