Essence of Vietnamese craft villages on display at Hanoi Museum
With the fresh approach of young designers, Vietnamese handicrafts have a contemporary perspective suitable for today's interior design tastes.
An exhibition entitled "The Essence of Vietnamese Traditional Crafts through the Perspective of Contemporary Interior Design" has opened at the Hanoi Museum to celebrate the capital's traditional craft villages, link tourism and commerce, and promote creative design activities.
The display introduces 10 typical craft villages on silver casting, rattan weaving, ceramics, silk and among others.
Each product tells a unique story and represents people's customs and production habits in traditional handicraft villages.
From the creative perspective of students from nine universities in Vietnam and one from Thailand, the exhibits bring forth an innovative and unique art space. The above thematic exhibition is part of the activities within the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of Hanoi Museum Nguyen Tien Da said that the exhibition shows the Hanoi Museum's attempt to assert itself as a typical cultural creative space of the capital. It also realizes the commitment of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network to bring creative activities into all aspects of life.
"At present, Hanoi is the leading city in the number of traditional handicraft villages and excellent artisans and workers being honored. The capital is an endless theme that inspires the creativity of many students majoring in interior design," he said.
The ten craft villages include Dinh Cong Silver Casting Village, Khoai Noi Embroidery Village, Phu Vinh Bamboo and Rattan Weaving Village, Nhan Hien Sculpture Craft Village, Chuon Ngo Mother-of-pearl Inlay Village, Thiet Ung Finewood Carving Village, Thuy Ung Horn Comb Village, Bat Trang Ceramics Village, Van Phuc Silk Village, and Hang Trong Folk Painting Street.
