Hanoi bolsters traditional medicine to enhance public health

Hanoi is intensifying efforts to strengthen traditional medicine as a key pillar of the healthcare system, aiming to improve public access to comprehensive medical treatment.

Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha has approved a plan to review the implementation of Decision No. 1893/QD-TTg issued by the prime minister on December 25, 2019, which focuses on the integration of traditional and modern medicine in five years.

The move responds to the growing need for a healthcare system that leverages Vietnam's rich heritage of traditional medicine while ensuring scientific advances in treatment. By promoting a holistic approach, the city aims to improve the effectiveness of healthcare, provide more patient-centered options, and increase the credibility of traditional medicine in medical practice.

The review will assess progress, identify shortcomings, and propose strategic improvements to expand the role of traditional medicine in disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

The conference, scheduled for March 2025, will feature reports from leading practitioners of traditional medicine, acupuncture associations, and healthcare institutions, focusing on best practices, policy gaps, and future directions. The review will provide critical input for recommendations to the prime minister to strengthen traditional medicine nationwide.

Authorities stress that the initiative is not only preserving tradition but also modernizing traditional medicine in a more effective, accessible, and sustainable healthcare system.
