Hanoi creates nearly 154,000 jobs in the first 8 months of 2022

The capital city will improve the quality of job fairs and create a reliable link between job seekers and job suppliers.

In the first eight months of 2022, Hanoi has created jobs for 153,523 people, reaching 96% of the year plan, up 33.7% compared to the same period of 2021.

This information was released by Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung at the online conference "Developing a flexible, modern and sustainable labor market" on Saturday, which was chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Hanoi Employment Service Center, under the Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, has held 168 job fairs with the participation of 4,656 entities and companies. Of the estimated total of 1,926 job seekers, 38,794 were interviewed and another 12,895 found employment.

Speaking at the online event, Dung said thanks to the flexible response along with continuous efforts to recover and develop the economy from the central to local levels, most production and business activities in Hanoi and other localities have returned to normal.

In the coming times, Hanoi's labor market will continue facing difficulties and challenges due to pressure from rising prices of some essential commodities as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the vice chairman added.

"Therefore, in order to create more jobs, the Hanoi People's Committee and the municipal Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs Department will continue to work on connecting labor supply and demand in various forms," he said.

The city will step by step improve the quality of job fairs, and create a reliable bridge between job seekers and suppliers.

The city also continues to provide capital through the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) - Hanoi branch to business households and laborers who are facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in need of credits to restore production, business, and create jobs.

On August 18, thousands of university students in Hanoi had the opportunity to meet and be interviewed by 50 leading companies and multinational corporations at the Hanoi Job Fair 2022 on the campus of the Hanoi Water Resources University.

Nguyen Trung Viet, Vice Rector of Hanoi Water Resources University told The Hanoi Times that the festival helped employers promote their brands and enhance the connection among university - business - students.

Bui Thanh Tung, CEO of Teknix Technology JSC, said that given the current technological boom, the company aspires to become a leader in technology solutions.

"To be able to realize that dream, we need young people from Generation Z. We want to open up new opportunities for the young generation, especially those who love technology, to develop careers,” he told The Hanoi Times.

The labor market in Vietnam has continued to recover rapidly over the past months. Many policies to create jobs and support labor market development have been consistently implemented, in the context of the labor market recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the labor force aged 15 and older in the first six months of 2022 reached 51.4 million people, up 400,000 people year on year. Of which, 19.1 million people were employed in urban areas while another 32.3 million people were in rural areas. Employed workers aged 15 and older were 50.3 million, an increase of 417,000 people over the same period of 2021.

Both the total labor force and employed workers in the first six months of this year increased relative to the previous quarter and over the same period last year in all economic sectors. The average monthly income of workers surged relative to the previous quarter and over the same period last year.

The average monthly income of workers in the second quarter of 2022 reached VND6.6 million (US$282.5), an increase of VND206,000 ($8.8) compared to the first quarter of 2022. The average monthly income of workers in the first six months of 2022 is VND6.5 million ($278), an increase of 5.3% (equivalent to an increase of VND326,000 ($13.9)) compared to the same period in 2021 and an increase of 11% (equivalent to an increase of VND646,000 ($27.6)) compared to the same period in 2020.

Developing the labor market is the most important task of the labor industry in the last months of 2022, Minister of the Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said at a labor-related conference held earlier in August.

In the immediate future, from now until the end of August, the industry needs to prepare well the national forum on employment, labor market development, flexibility, modernity, sustainability and integration, he added.
