Japan has been a major donor of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, estimated at US$24 billion, or 26.4% of total borrowings of the Vietnamese government.

Vietnam is considered India’s key partner in Southeast Asia in India’s Act East Policy.

The two leaders hope to upgrade the bilateral ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two countries will maintain relations in different spheres, mainly economic development.

Canberra said the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is “more than just a label.”
