Australia strengthens ties with Vietnam in key strategic areas
Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski affirmed Australia’s ambition to become Vietnam’s top partner in agriculture, technology, energy transition, rare minerals, and security cooperation during a farewell meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 27. The ambassador praised Vietnam’s external relations as a global model and expressed confidence in its potential to become a leading Asian economy, describing bilateral ties as advancing at “a decade’s progress in one year.”
Between Jan and Nov, two-way trade rose 2.9% to US$13 billion. As of August, Australia poured $2.05 billion into 660 projects in Vietnam. In its Southeast Asian Economic Strategy to 2040, Vietnam is a prioritized destination for Australian investment.
Green solutions drive net zero initiative in southeast Vietnam
Vietnam’s Net Zero Science and Technology Program was launched on December 28 for southeast Vietnam to focus on green solutions like carbon capture, renewable energy, and green hydrogen to reduce emissions and promote sustainable development in agriculture, industry, and urban areas.
Cultural and natural heritage shine in Mu Cang Chai festival
The 2024 Festival Khen Mong and To Day Flower Festival are now underway until January 2, 2025, in Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai Province to highlight local culture, nature, and tourism potential. Featuring art performances, ethnic cultural displays, and activities like paragliding and traditional games, the festival promotes cultural heritage and tourism development, aligning with Mu Cang Chai’s goal of becoming a unique and sustainable tourist destination.

Viettel and HUST collaborate on advanced 5G/6G research lab
Viettel and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) inaugurated a 5G/6G research lab worth VND1.7 billion (US$70,000). The lab will support foundational research on 5G and future 6G technologies, enabling collaboration, advanced training, and innovation in network solutions like beamforming and network slicing for applications such as automation and telemedicine. On this occasion, Viettel Research Excellence Scholarships have been awarded to HUST students.

New advances in veterinary vaccines aim to boost animal health
The forum “Application of New Advances in Veterinary Vaccines in Vietnam” held on December 28 discussed strategies to combat rising animal diseases due to increased trade and travel. This helps enhance vaccine production capacity, foster international collaboration, and leverage advanced technology to strengthen Vietnam's disease control through innovative vaccines, including its globally recognized African swine fever vaccines exported to five countries.
Agriculture sector targets $70 billion exports in 2025
Vietnam is set to earn US$70 billion from exporting agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in 2025, up 12% on year. The sector will focus on increasing value-added production, expanding markets, and promoting sustainable practices.
