Vietnamese music composer honored with Love for Hanoi award
The renowned Hanoi-born songwriter devoted his life to compose a large number of songs about the capital city.
Renowned Hanoi-born songwriter Phu Quang has won the “Grand prize - For love of Hanoi”, the most important among the four prize categories of the 13th Bui Xuan Phai awards, at a ceremony held in Hanoi on October 7, Kinh Te & Do Thi reported.
The annual event, first launched by the Van hoa & The thao (Sports and Culture) newspaper under the Vietnam News Agency 13 years ago, was among the activities to celebrate the 1,010th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi and the 100th birth anniversary of painter Bui Xuan Phai, a founder of modern fine arts in Vietnam.

According to the jury, songwriter Phu Quang devoted his life to compose a large number of songs about the capital city. He was also a member of the awards jury from its first edition.
The “Prize for Outstanding Works - For love of Hanoi” was granted to Marko Nikolic, 33, from Serbia with the novel “Pho Nha Tho” (Church street). Through a romantic love story, Nikolic depicted typical identity of Hanoi, the city that combines oriental and western features.
He is the youngest winner of the prize so far. “I have been in Hanoi for four years, so I have a lot of interesting experiences about the city. Therefore, this novel is also my wish to share a foreigner's perspective and feelings about Hanoi,” said Nikolic.
The “Prize for Outstanding Deeds - For love of Hanoi” went to the Phuc Tan public art project carried out by the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district, through which domestic and foreign artists turned a garbage collection area into a work of street art and conveyed a message of environmental protection via the use of recycled items.
A group of researchers from Ha Dong district also earned the prize with the collection and presentation of about 150 royal decrees to villages and relics, more than 80 of which were conferred to temples in Hanoi.
The “Prize for Outstanding Idea - For love of Hanoi” was awarded to the competition for design and construction of milestone Km0 in the Hoan Kiem lake. The contest was held by the Architecture Magazine under the auspices of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy said that this is a meaningful event to honor literary and artistic works, thereby encouraging authors and promoting people's activities for the love of Hanoi.
On the occasion, Van hoa & The thao (Sports and Culture) newspaper and guests cut the ribbon to open an exhibition entitled “Bui Xuan Phai - 100 years of love for Hanoi” by Tran Chinh Nghia with about 30 portrait paintings of Bui Xuan Phai and another exhibition of Bui Xuan Phai’s paintings and sketches collected by painter Van Duong Thanh.
