Hanoi's business formations down 1% to 9,400 in Jan-May
Hanoi city attracted US$ 4.75 billion of foreign investment, making up 28.64% of registered capital of the whole country.
Hanoi has seen a total of 9,420 newly-established enterprises in the first five months of 2019, down 1% year-on-year, while their registered capital increased 36% from a year earlier to a combined VND97.5 trillion (US$4.2 billion), up according to the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment.
Briefing on Hanoi’s socio-economic development at the city People's Committee’s monthly meeting, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Manh Quyen said that the city’s investment environment kept being improved, with 100% of business registrations made online, of which 1.2% of the documents use digital signatures.
The city attracted US$ 4.75 billion in foreign direct investment, making up 28.64% of registered capital of the whole country.
Total retail sales and service revenue increased by 10.8%, with the supply of goods being diversified and meeting consumers' needs, Quyen said.
He added that the average consumer price index (CPI) increased by 4.1% in five months. The groups of commodities and services that have witnessed the sharpest price hikes are education services (13.62%), food and catering services (5.32%), entertainment and tourism (5.07%), housing and construction materials (4.71%).
Tourist arrivals in to Hanoi is estimated to reach 11.75 million, up 9.5% over the same period last year, including 2.89 million international arrivals, up 10, 3%. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at VND41.9 trillion (US$1.8 billion), up 29.2% year-on-year, the director informed.
He noted that urban management and development continued to be enhanced. The city strengthened traffic order and safety; ensured the supply of electricity, water, drainage and wastewater treatment and environmental sanitation; urban embellishment has been taken care of.
Assessing Hanoi’s socio-economic development in the first five months of 2019, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that although there are improvements against the same period last year but they still fall short of expectations.
Chung asked the relevant departments to find solutions to meet the requirements set out in the city’s 2019 plan.
In order to fulfill the target, Hanoi needs to continue to remove obstacles for production and business to promote growth in 2019, the mayor stressed.
Hanoi is actively preparing for the “Hanoi 2018 – Investment and Development Cooperation” conference, with the aim to improve the investment environment, promote trade and tourism and remove hurdles for businesses, he said.
