Hoan Kiem Walking Street - exemplary in cultural space creation: EU ambassador
With a large under-30 population and rapid urbanization, Vietnam offers a large market for the creative industry to grow.
Hoan Kiem Walking Street in Hanoi is one of the best examples for building creative cultural spaces in the creative economy of Vietnam, said Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Vietnam, Ambassador Bruno Angelet on the sideline of the seminar titled “The role of cultural and creative hubs in the creative economy of Vietnam” on November 7.
The event was held by the British Council Vietnam in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to Bruno Angelet, in 2016, the Government of Vietnam showed strong support for its emerging cultural industries through the approval of the National Strategy for the Development of Cultural Industries to 2020 vision to 2030.
"However, in urban planning, Vietnam should think of urban culture space. The plan will give the people space and freedom for cultural promotion," said Bruno Angelet.
Speaking at the seminar, UK Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward said that in this country, the cultural and creative industries are at an emerging phase. With a large population under the age of 30 and rapidly expanding urban areas, Vietnam offers a large market for its creative sectors to grow. It is an exciting time for the Vietnamese government and its growing private sector to explore ways to shape and develop the country’s creative economy.
“I have already been impressed by the fantastic art and cultural scenes in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. I’m very much looking forward to knowing more about the artistic and creative talent of Vietnam and supporting their contribution to the growth of the country,” the ambassador of UK to Vietnam stressed.
At the seminar, experts shared opinions on building creative cultural spaces in Vietnam, and the impact of the “National Strategy for the Development of Cultural Industries to 2020, vision to 2030” on the creative industries.
The experts also discussed the role of cultural and creative hubs as well as art and organizations and businesses in shaping Vietnam’s creative economy. They also debated what Vietnam can learn from developed countries’ experiences or the optimal conditions to foster the role and contributions of art businesses to the development of the creative industries in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
